A masterpiece for everyone but me, apparently

This is the the first Final Fantasy game I ever attempted to play. I had heard so much about the series, and this was overwhelmingly acclaimed as a "must-play" game. Sadly, with years in-between, it took 4 tries for me to complete it.

Yakuza 6

Growing pains, unfortunately right at the end

The third reimagining of the series in as many games. Everything is new: gameplay, sound, look, and tone. The first game to use the Dragon Engine, but they clearly hadn't quite figured out how to take advantage of it.

A fantastic evolution

The best since Zero. This introduced some very enjoyable twists to the Yakuza formula that defined the Yakuza series for the next several entries. This feels like the pinnacle of the old style of Yakuza games.
