Judgment

A modern noir story with its own extraordinary style

2025-02-17 - 13 minutes

This is Ryu Ga Gotoku's storytelling at its peak paired with the best gameplay so far. The studio used this spinoff as an opportunity to experiment without the confines of the main series. Not everything was a hit, but most was.

Yakuza 6

Growing pains, unfortunately right at the end

2025-02-02 - 14 minutes

The third reimagining of the series in as many games. Everything is new: gameplay, sound, look, and tone. The first game to use the Dragon Engine, but they clearly hadn't quite figured out how to take advantage of it.

Yakuza 5

The MOST Yakuza of all time

2025-01-26 - 29 minutes

The most ambitious. The most explosive. The most ridiculous. The most experimental. The most content-rich. The most twists. The most... everything. Maybe a bit too much?

Yakuza 4

A fantastic evolution

2025-01-19 - 6 minutes

The best since Zero. This introduced some very enjoyable twists to the Yakuza formula that defined the Yakuza series for the next several entries. This feels like the pinnacle of the old style of Yakuza games.

Yakuza 3

Flawed but underrated

This is the "oldest" right now, since the preceding games were all re-remade, and this one was only remade, and that's how the timing worked out. Hot take? I kinda liked that. The Dragon Engine did not make Kiwami 2 enjoyable, and I'd much rather have some old school jank than a bunch of technical problems. In some ways, it was refreshing.
